We have tried different tools online for
practicing students’ comprehension skill.
Firstly, J cloze from hot potatoes is a
really amazing tool. It saves a lot of time and effort as it can be used to
create a cloze exercise by pasting the passage and selecting the targeted
words. With just as few clicks, a cloze passage is ready in a blink of an eye.
I can’t imagine creating a cloze exercise can be that easy. What makes it even
better is that hints or clues can be added in the passage which is suitable for
less able students.
Another wonderful tool is J cross. Same as
J cloze, it is from hot potatoes. Once again, it can’t be easier to use. What you
need to do is just type in the targeted words and click a few buttons. A crossword
puzzle is formed in a split second! It is amazing! A crossword puzzle is definitely
more interesting, isn’t it?
However,
when I was creating a crossword puzzle about clothing items for my p.1 students
using J cross, I somehow find it difficult to provide hints for them as pictures
cannot be added. It may be too difficult for p.1 students to understand the
hints in words. So I create a supplemental worksheet showing pictures as hints
for them to complete the crosswords puzzle. Here is the worksheet and the link of the J cross.
I’m sure
they will like it!
Finally,
just want to share one more thing with all of you. I have tried out Padlet with
my p.6 students. I asked them to search for pictures and words about Olympic Games
and an overwhelming response is received from them. Really didn’t expect they
would participate so actively! I guess I am really going to take more chances
to use online resources in teaching!

YVONNE, I WILL ASK YOU TO SHARE YOUR PADLET EXPERIENCE IN SESSION 11.
