Session 4 : reflection

Teaching vocabulary has long been a huge challenge for me as i often see students getting bored when it comes to vocabulary learning session. I have tried many ways to make it more fun for students to learn new words, like showing pictures and playing games, or even videos to them so as to raise their interest. Sometimes it will work in class but their interest may not last so long that they will have the motivation to memorize and revise the words they have learnt in class.

The lesson today provides good solutions to make things work not only when they are in class, but also at home.  Quizlet can be used to instantly create flashcards for students to learn the meaning, pronunciation and usage of new vocabularies by playing various games, which is definitely ideal in promoting self-learning incentive.

To make it even better, it is also easy to construct mind maps to turn scattered vocabularies into organized flows. With such an assistance, students will not find it so difficult to revise new words. They can just follow the mind maps and get  to know the whole picture of the lesson instead of stuffing their head with all those new words. I believe such good understanding will help them develop long- term memory so that they can really learn those new words, which will also be beneficial for their writing as good organization of ideas are built up.

With the help of all these useful tools, learning vocabulary will no longer be boring and I am sure my students will enjoy such a learning experience. I can't wait to try them out in my next lesson.
