Session 7 : reflection

We have tried different audio activities in this session. First, we listened to some talk shows produced by primary and secondary students in Sunday Smile and Teen Talk respectively. The shows are fun and the level of language used is suitable for my P.6 students. Since we are teaching about the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast in the textbook, I will share this website with my class and encourage them to make their own shows. I think this will be great fun and I can't wait to share their work!

Secondly, we tried to share a reading from Fluency Tutor. This is an interesting website which can allow students to listen to the text with different ascents and search for the meaning of the words that they do not know with dictionary (with pictures!). Moreover, students can then record their own voice and share it with teachers and classmates. Teacher can listen to the playbacks easily and give grades or comments accordingly, or even share them with other students in class. It sounds fun for students to listen to their own or friends' voices. Using the Fluency Tutor, it is now possible for students to have solid practice in both listening and speaking as they can now do it anytime at home. As you may all know, the time in class is very tight just to cover the content and grammar items in the textbooks, not to mention all the exercises that students need to complete. With the help of those online tools, every students can have a chance to read aloud instead of reading alone or in group in the classrooms while others are merely listening or simply waiting, which is very time consuming. Enabling students to read aloud and listen to the recordings at home can provide a concrete solution to the time constraint in class.

There are lots of passages provided by the website which are in various levels. I will choose some passages which are topic-related and suitable levels for my students. I can foresee that we are going to have so much fun in this reading aloud lesson. I hope they all can read like a star!
